HOW TO MEASURE WITH DIAL AND DIGITAL CALIPERS

  • You simply get a spring like the example above , grab your caliper and turn the thumb roller right to be big enough for you to put the spring horizontally in between the outside measuring face (8) on your caliper. Gently roll the thumb roller left until the outside measuring burly touches the spring, what ever the gauge reads that is your Free Length.

  • To measure the Outside Diameter just turn the spring vertically like the picture on the right. Grab the caliper and roll the roller right to get enough room to put the spring in between the outside measuring face(8) . Gently roll the thumb roll left until the spring burly touches the step measuring face, what ever the gauge reads that's your Outside Diameter.

  • To measure the Inside Diameter, insert the inside measuring faces(1) into the first half of the coil, then roll the thumb roll right until it cannot go anymore that it how you measure the inside diameter

  • To determine the total number of coils a spring has you start out by counting the first wire then continue until you've counted all the coils. Then minus one coil to give you the total number of coils.

  • To measure the wire diameter simply just roll the thumb roll right get the spring horizontally and with the tip of the outside measuring face(8) just grab one coil by rolling the thumb roll left until it cannot roll no more.
Note: With Digital Dial Calipers it's the same as the Dial Caliper, Only difference is that you have a display screen on the digital dial caliper and on the dial caliper you have a gauge.
